Once a month at McAllen Heart Hospital, the program hosts Senior Sunday, a seminar that features different speakers who discuss health topics of interest to senior adults. Participants also get blood pressure and glucose screenings and a healthy lunch. The cost to attend is $4 for Senior Advantage members and $5 for nonmembers. Ruth Elliot, a Senior Advantage member since 2005, says she joined to learn more about her diabetes, osteoporosis and two heart stents. "I can never be too informed when talking with my doctors," Ruth says. By attending Senior Sunday, Ruth says she has learned to take her medicines at the same time every day and has become wiser regarding her food habits. "I monitor my glucose levels when I attend Senior Sunday and make sure I'm on track," she says. "I enjoy the food, and the price is very reasonable." She adds that the speakers are well-informed on the subjects they're presenting, and she knows she can always expect a great speaker every Senior Sunday. "They allow us to ask questions when they're done, and they take their time to fully answer them," Ruth says. Senior Sunday Join Senior Advantage
