South Texas Health System is pleased to bring you this very special edition of Health News, all about leading maternity care services offered at the Birthing Center of South Texas at McAllen Medical Center.

With this issue, we're proud to introduce our most recent clinical accolades in women's health: McAllen Medical Center is one of only six Texas hospitals to be a dual recipient of the 2006/2007 HealthGrades' Maternity Care Excellence Award and the 2006/2007 Women's Health Excellence Award.

There are many things we do to earn ratings of excellence. We even offer education and advice using online tools and classroom settings to help you get the most out of your visit with us. Our experience treating high-risk pregnancies started as the Rio Grande Valley's fi rst established Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Founded in 1979, the NICU at McAllen Medical Center has helped many area babies grow to live healthy lives.

If you or someone you love is pregnant or thinking about becoming pregnant, we're here to help. We can assist you with fi nding a physician, delivering your baby and providing you with valuable information every step of the way. We also offer your growing baby a place for specialized pediatric care at our kids-only hospital, Edinburg Children's Hospital in Edinburg.

We welcome your vist to any of our South Texas Health System hospitals. In the meantime, we are pleased to deliver information on our programs and services to you in this newsletter. Enjoy your reading.
