Neurosurgery at McAllen Medical Center: 24/7 Care

McAllen Medical Center is the only hospital in Hidalgo County that has neurosurgeons available 24 hours a day to evaluate and treat patients with cerebral aneurysms, brain tumors, cranial bleeds, traumatic injuries and other brain disorders.

"Conditions that affect the brain can be very serious," says Cindy Bruce, RN, Director of House Supervisors and Case Management at McAllen Medical Center. "We're able to provide advanced care quickly, which can help minimize damage to the brain and even save patients' lives."

Neurosurgeons often use the hospital's sophisticated BrainLAB system to map the brain, view critical structures in three dimensions and plan and perform complex surgeries.

"The neurosurgery program is very important to our community," Bruce says. "Before we offered neurosurgery services, we had to transfer patients to San Antonio. Traveling that distance to visit loved ones was a hardship for many local families."
