Since then, Luna has worked tirelessly advocating for transplantation and donation at the local, state and national levels. He recently completed his term as the first chair of the Glenda Dawson Donate Life – Texas Registry, a position he accepted at the request of Eduardo Sanchez, MD, former Medical Director at the Texas Department of State Health Services. "The committee accomplished a lot in the first four years," Luna says. "We created forms people can use to register as organ donors, developed a database to collect and store their names and launched a major bilingual campaign to educate the public about the importance of organ and tissue donation." "Roger has been a solid and true supporter of donation for years," says Patrick Giordano, MHA, FACHE, CEO at the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance. "As chair of the committee, he was instrumental in helping the donor registry grow to 250,000 names with very limited resources." Previously, Donna Shalala, a former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, appointed Luna to serve as a member of the national Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation.
