4-D Ultrasound Technology Produces High-Quality, Detailed Images

South Texas Health System's new 4-D and 3-D ultrasound system can help you "see" your baby for the first time during pregnancy. This innovative technology produces high-quality and detailed images that make it easier for doctors to monitor you and your baby.

"We use a 3-D probe to see inside the uterus, measure the baby's head, chest and legs and estimate fetal weight," says Maria Coimbra, M.D., a family practice physician. "We can identify potential problems early to help us decide what we need to do to help keep moms and babies healthy."

Ultrasonographers use a special 4-D probe to show parents real-time images inside the womb while their babies sleep, suck their thumbs or smile. The probe produces very clear pictures of babies' features. Parents even get keepsake photos they can show family members and friends!
